Find answers to choir questions

Q.  I just made the football team.  Do I have to give up choir?

A.  No, no, no! Students can take choir and cheerleading, choir and drama, choir and football, choir and band….any combination you want. We have choir kids in football, basketball, cheerleading, band, orchestra, drama, soccer, volleyball and all kinds of other things. If you want to do it, it can be done!

Q.  I'm worried about my grades.  Can I be in choir, and get good grades?

A.  Of course.  We have many students in Pre-Advanced Placement Classes, and in the LEAP...and we want them in these programs!  We want all of our students to do well in their courses!  We can help them find other students to serve as tutors, and we support them if they struggle.  Choir is a great thing to have when you need to find someone to lend a hand.

Q.  Choir is going to keep me awfully busy though, isn't it?

A.  Only if you want it to!  Students are required to attend only a handful of performances each year, and they are spread out over the entire school year.  Now, if you really want to stay busy, we have lots for you to do: audition for All-Region and All-District, participate in Solo and Ensemble, audition for the National ACDA choir, or sing a solo on our pop show, etc. But you will only be really busy if you want to be!

Q.  Does it cost a lot of money?

A.  Choir doesn't cost more than most electives on our campus.  In fact, most times it's cheaper!  You carry your instrument around with you- so you never need to buy or rent one!  We do fundraisers to help us with our costs as well.  If money is an issue, we can ALWAYS find a way to make it work so that you can still be in choir.

Q.  What happens if choir conflicts with my basketball game?  Coach says I'll be benched.

A.  That wouldn't happen because we will work it out.  Again, being really involved is a good thing, not a bad one.  We don't want to see you punished for being good at a number of things.   The coaches and teachers work with the choir program to ensure we are successful!  You can be a part of anything!

Q.  Do we just sing?

A.  Although our main purpose is making music together, choir is a place to make friends too.  We will have many activities throughout the year, like going to play broomball, going to arena football games, hockey games, shopping trips, ice skating, lock-ins, and much more!.  We also get to go to amusement parks like Six Flags and Sandy Lake to compete!

Q.  Is it cool to be in choir?

A.  Absolutely!  :)  We are one of the largest and most successful organizations on campus!

If you have any other questions email or call Miss Black and she'll help you figure it all out!

There are more bad musicians than there is bad music.
